When Commenting On Appearance…

Sooo, it’s not Monday. But I’m still need to get this off my chest.

If you follow me on Twitter (@Miss_Misfit97) then you know that I had a l uncomfortable experience at work last week.

First of all, you should know that I’m not easily uncomfortable. I’ve been through weird things and I can deal with the “everyday” odd encounters. But this was in a very different “league”, so to speak.

I already talked about what happened so if you want the full story, I’ll link the thread right here.

But short version:

A man gave me a weird look upon seeing I have a shaved head, but later apologized for making me uncomfortable. Then he makes a comment about how he doesn’t like short hair on girls but follows up by saying I look gorgeous.

I also have to mention that this man was with his two young kids and his wife. And when he complimented me, he acted as if he didn’t want her to hear. He then proceeds to smile and go back to his seat.

I personally consider this harassment. It was uncomfortable and I felt like I wasn’t being treated like a person. But that’s a topic for another day.

What I really want to talk about is how this man thought it was his right to give his opinion about my appearance.

News flash! It wasn’t.

Before anyone gets their undies in a twist, yes, I understand he was trying to “compliment” me. But the way he did it was wrong.

Guys, girls do not need you to tell them what you don’t like about their appearance. Or what you generally don’t like in any girls’ appearance.

Because guess what! We don’t care! You might think so, but our whole lives do not revolve around you and pleasing you. Get over your-fucking-self.

Do I sound angry? Yeah? Good. Because I am! I’m so tired of people thinking they have the right to make comments on my appearance as if by doing so I’ll just magically change how I look! Well guess what! I won’t! I actually really like how I look! And it took a long time and a lot of hard work to get to that level of confidence, so stop acting entitled, you absolute Fuck.

Everyone is allowed to have opinions. But take a moment to think about what your words might do before you say them.

I have a unique look, especially since I live in a small town, but that doesn’t mean I’m “inviting” anyone to say whatever the fuck they want about me. It doesn’t happen a lot but often enough for it to be actually aggravating.

To anyone else who ever faces this kind of bullshit, please just remember this:

If you are not hurting yourself or anyone else, then you can look however you want.

Tons of tattoos? Hell, yeah!

Ink not your thing? Awesome!

Piercings? Go for it!

Not a fan? No worries!

Like showing some skin? Sweet!

Rather keep it under your clothes? Work it!

Like short hair? Chop it off!

Wanna let your locks flow in the wind? Live your Rapunzel dream!

No matter what, don’t let anyone tell you to change just because the way you look doesn’t align with “type”. Look however you want to look, after all, it’s your body. Your choice.

Before I go, I just wanted to say thank you for 100 followers! I know that I (once again) haven’t been as active on here but I’m officially done with school and will actually have more time to spend writing about things I really want to write about. I have so many ideas and things to talk about and I really hope people are willing to listen.

So until next time!
